in my mind, if I hook wires to track, the signal light should come on. I have a dc transformer wired to track. Nothing. I can light a caboose but not track

According to the manual, the switch works best on 5-18 AC, not DC. Do you have an AC power suppy you can try?
Looks like the jumper is missing on the switch. There's a jumper clip that comes with the switch that attaches to the track jumper terminal on the bottom of the switch. That will run it off of track power. Otherwise you have to hook auxiliary power up to the bottom of the switch itself.
looks like I need to fashion a jumper and switch transformers
thanks!
Yup. Jumper between “aux in” and “track jumper” to run from track power....Or....remove the track jumper and just run aux power to “aux in” from an AC source, and ground will get picked up from the track common.
The question about not operating on DC arose when LionChief first came out. The FasTrack switches will not operate on track powered by DC or direct DC.
Yes, you do need a track power jumper or connect the switches only to an AC power supply without the jumper and operate the train with the DC wall pack power.
By the way, how well will this work as a manual switch?
Make sure you have good continuity on that jumper wire, that should power the switch.
ChinaTrain99,
Hey, what's the status of the switch issue?
There's a few things to check if you have no joy.
One is to take the controller out the test and just use a jumper to touch GND to Thru or Out to rule out a controller problem.
There is a couple of internal wiring problems known that require the removal of the cover and some testing.
let us know. You can get it working.
Carl. Thanks for the pep talk. I’ve put it on the side burner
