I just got a new heritage PS3 unit which for the life of me cannot get recognized by DCS. I've tried multiple Rev-L TIUs, and all the other locomotives are being recognized just find. The unit powers up in conventional, and stays silent when it recognizes the DCS signal on power up. I was hoping that there was a checklist of what else to try prior to sending it back for warranty support...

Thanks!

If you're using DCS 4.10 or later, try the Recover Engine command:

  • Menu/System/Engine Setup/Recover Engine

You must be using DCS 4.10 or 4.20 and TIU #1. There can be no other engines powered up other than the one being recovered.

This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!

Thanks for the replies!

I have made some progress, though not quite where I wanted to be...

First thing I did was check to see about the DCS/DCC switch, since I've gotten at least one engine previously that wasn't set properly - it was fine.

I've tried a dedicated programming track with a recently displaced older TIU, after setting it to TUI 1 (Already at 4.20). Recover engine did nothing - was kind of odd with no messages, just a long wait.

Tried opening up the unit and resetting the 40 pin connector. This was my first time inside a PS3 engine - my, the wires have gotten smaller! Partial success at this point - the engine would register, grudgingly with track errors, as an engine with no name in the remote. Could start it, turn on/off smoke, but no name is disconcerting.

Any suggestions from here?

Barry - I had gotten your book years ago in electronic format - just can't seem to find the receipt. Keep on meaning to call to see if I can get a resend, but keep forgetting during business hours. May just buy it anew.

I know you might not want to go any further but I will throw out something else I have run into.  Next to the 8 pin plug you will see a small signal (coil) generator that is surface mounted to the board.  This generates DCS signal.    If you feel comfortable with an iron, touch the legs with a hot iron.  I have hit this one before.
