I was restoring a Lionel 646 steamer. Take a look at the pictures. Smoke chamber was loaded with old pellets. After cleaning out the old stuff and installing and new wick and heater element. Smokes like new.

An actual real one I banned locally at our club, someone brought in Beer scent. Hands down the worst thing I ever have smelled sold as a real product for train usage. Hot stinking stale beer dried into a carpet maybe with some vomit- as an actual scented smoke fluid sold in a bottle, and only gets worse as the smoke unit wick dries out. The kind of stuff to take someone back behind the woodshed over.

I think Jeb has a premium scent named Barnyard. 
It doesn't take much imagination to figure out what that one smells like.
