I am a member of a small "O gauge" group (6 members - ages 71 through 82)  within a larger multiscale club.

I am trying to find  information and part numbers for Lionel modern equipment so that I can make needed repairs.

I am able to get some info using  Lionel Support, Olsens, and the internet.  My big problem is trying to properly identify a particular piece of equipment.    An example of my problem is: I have a Great Northern  6438  bay window caboose I need the COLLECTOR ROLLER ASSEMBLY .  I have realized that I don't  the information need to identify the caboose  when I search on the  Lionel Support  Site  (www.lionelsupport.com/ReplacementParts/index. search).

I must be doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what it is.

More brain picking.         I am also responsible for  responsible for maintaining the Lionel postwar inventory.  I have both the  Postwar Greenberg and Kline  Complete Service Manuals for Lionel Trains and I am wondering if it would be worth purchasing a copy of  the digital Hybrid Systems Ltd - THE LIONEL POSTWAR SERVICE MANUAL DIGITAL ARCHIVE?

Also does anyone know if pages of the digital manual can be printed so I don't have to have the laptop on my bench as I do repairs?  And can the 6 group members download the manual to their personal computers?

Any input would be much appreciated.   Did I mention I am desperate!

Thanks.

Thank you very much for the part number! You have helped me alot.   One of my big problems is a lack of time to do all I need to do. I can usually locate post war numbers easier then Modern Lionel equipment  numbers or modern part numbers.  Is there no way to easily cross reference a piece of rolling stock's 4 digit marker number to Lionel's number they use to identify the piece?   (I am not sure if I am clearly explaining myself.)

My other question was: is anyone familiar with the digital "Hybrid Systems Ltd's - THE LIONEL POSTWAR SERVICE MANUAL DIGITAL ARCHIVE on CD?  [ http://www.hslinc.com/dahome/dalpwsmhome.html ]   If so, how does it compare to the other reference books websites out there? Is it worth buying for the information it has , especially for someone like myself wanting to make quality repairs?

Bob - as ADCX Rob mentioned, the Lionel Supplements are available and can be printed. I have not however, found them to be searchable, a real drawback to me since I prefer a quick search on my PC as opposed to a paper copy. I also found this link for part of the modern era, 1970-1986, through East Texas Trains - Model Trains. It looks like they have compiled all the Lionel supplements into one PDF file, also not searchable, but printable. They have gone an extra step in offering an Excel version that is searchable (yay!). Both pdf files and Excel version are free for the downloading. Look here.

If anyone else knows a way to electronically search the (pdf version) Supplements, I would really like to learn how!

I hope this helps,

George
