I'm motorizing an old 30" Bowser turntable. Can anyone recommend a 0.5 to 1.0 RPM gear motor for this application?

Try servocity. They have some great motors at great prices.

Second look I found the Bowser kit. 
Bowser TT's had two problems, (1.) the 3/8" drive shaft would bend, and (2.) the pit track boggies tended to drag. Millhouse River, and Diamond Scale TT's, addressed the Bowser problems and work well.
Upgrade kit is still on the Millhouse website.
Thanks for the suggestions. That Millhouse kit is very tempting. I want to build my own, but I just know it will eventually cost more and take a lot more time than anticipated. A good gear motor seems so easy and cheap. Famous last words.
