This is the remains of a turntable at Genesee Junction, jus south of Rochester NY.

It is yard and junction point for the R&S formerly B&O/BR&P and CSX former West Shore Div. NYC.  LA&L has access via the West Shor's second track. It is located south of the West shore  near the banks of Black Creek about 100 yards west of the Genesee Greenway trail.

Too bad that some of it, plus the turntable and roundhouse, could not have been saved.  From the looks of the remains it must have last seen service in the days before historic preservation was even thought of.  Any idea how big in diameter, this one is?  Give you an idea of what kind of engines were once serviced there.

Genesee Junction was originally in the middle of nowhere. This was not an engine repair facility, but there must have been fuel and water. There was no roundhouse. There is a small  yard and that one time was much larger. The Turntable serviced the NYC. This was a major interchange point with the BR&P/B&O with coal from the western Pennsylvania coal fields going to New England.  The Pennsylvania RR's Rochester Branch also interchanged here
