I agree. For me, the scenery is worth tuning in for. We record it and use it to fill time when we have nothing better to watch. It also lets us skip the commercials. Not sure why they think they have to fake the suspense though, just make it a documentary to show what life on the railroad is like.

"I liked the show that was on Thanksgiving day, just a camera on the nose of the engine for 3 hours."

I tried to watch some of that show and found it quite boring. The part I tried to watch showed nothing but pine trees. The fact that one can't pan around to see what is out the side of the window is a bit frustrating too.

As one who has posted some "in cab" videos, you really do lose a lot of the feel for the countryside by just staring down the tracks in "tunnel vision". Sadly, poor ol' dogs will do that. Just stay right between the rails until they got run over by the train.

With "live TV"?????

I DVR'd it, so I can fast forward if necessary. I've only watched a little of it, I found it interesting. They did occasionally cut away to show something different by the way.

I think the History Channel showed a similar 1-hour program showing a train going through the mountains of Norway. Apparently Norwegian state television showed a live broadcast that was on the air for something like 11 hours - and was one of the most popular programs in Norwegian TV history.

One of our local PBS stations (we have 2) aired the one hour version of the Norwegian show either last year or earlier this year.  I found it very interesting.

However it wasn't treated like the typical, so-called "reality" show.

That's why it was interesting.

Won't see this on the show.

A former Alaska Railroad union leader is facing federal charges of embezzling and misusing more than $100,000 from his employer, federal prosecutors said Thursday.

Jeffrey Davies, president of the Alaska Railroad Workers Union Local 183 between 2011 and 2014, stole the union funds through cash withdrawls, checks and by paying for personal expenses with a union debit card.

A federal grand jury indicted Davies, 41, on one count of embezzling labor union assets. The Wasilla man will be arraigned in federal court in the coming weeks.

“The charges in this case are a good reminder to all organizations that they should have processes in place to safeguard against potential theft and misuse of funds, including performing regular internal audits and requiring multiple officials to be involved in financial oversight,” said First Assistant U.S. Attorney, Kevin R. Feldis.

The FBI and the U.S. Department of Labor investigated the case.

If convicted, Davies could spend up to five years in prison and receive a $250,000 fine, according to the news release.

The Alaska Railroad is an independent corporation owned by the state of Alaska. A seven-member board, appointed by the governor, manages it.

As I've said a million times before, I just sit there watching this show asking myself over and over again why in the heck would anyone live "off the grid"?????  Those folks are out of their minds!  My idea of roughing it is Holiday Inn without a pool!  It is beautiful.  I would love to VISIT.  But there isn't enough money on the planet to get me to live there.  I like heat and people too much.

Wish I lived there.  With all due respect, some people like it.  Nothin wrong with quite.

I wholeheartedly agree but if those folks like living like that way off the grid I say more power to 'em! I don't like to judge but that lifestyle is definitely not for me. I know someone who lives in this manner in a remote area of upstate NY. His costs are real low and he doesn't have to go to a job but other than that there is nothing attractive about it to me. He can't afford O gauge trains and even if he could I don't believe he has a room with heat for a layout.

Understandable.  I've watched Norwegian TV.

You have tremendous freedom, for one thing.  That's something that has been RAPIDLY disappearing over the past ten years in this country.  You can say what you want and not be bullied by Politically Correct fascists.
