Currently, after reading lots about where to place TVS's, the most convenient place for me is at the lockons. Every lockon that I use has a TVS device with it. Some of my lockons are MTH lited lockons and hooking up power to them isn't hard even considering that I have a TVS device on it already.
However, I also use the old style Lionel lockons with the clips. It's extremely difficult to insert a wire into a clip when there's already a TVS wire there. In fact, the only way that I can do it is to use solid wire, stranded never works for me. Additionally, it's pretty hard to install a TVS device in it so I leave the TVS device installed permanently so removing them so I can install a power wire 1st isn't a practical solution.
I've been doing that for several years now but a thought just entered my mind that I would like to ask about. Would it be just as effective, or 99% close to being the same, if I connected a lockon on the track that had a TVS device and right next to it connect another lockon that I would use for track power??? I have tons on lockons so quantity wouldn't be an issue.
As always, thanks
