Haven’t had a layout in years so forgot much about setting it up. My biggest concern is how to properly wire turnouts, accessories, buildings etc
intend to use the old fashion conventional method - will be using a mix of Lionel and MTH
hoping to make a big layout maybe around 8 x 16
I read you can run multiple trains on same track and automatically prevent one from overtaking the other but not clear how this is done . Thought it had something to do with insulating the middle rail which causes one train to automatically stop when it reaches a certain point, then start again when other train reaches another point on track
Need help on multiple issues
1. does anyone have specific step by step instructions on how to set up tracks to run two trains on it , what tools are needed , if special tracks are needed to be purchased , and what other items must be bought
2. How to wire accessories like a crossing gate to automatically go up and down when train passes
3. How to wire a yard to keep a train in yard from moving when another train on the same track system is running
4. How many transformers are needed to run multiple trains, accessories and lighting buildings and what wattage each transformer should be
5. How to wire multiple automatic switch tracks / turnouts?
detailed instructions and information on how to accomplish each of the above will be greatly appreciated
