I like Atlas models, but so far I have had much better luck with MTH mechanically.  When an Atlas power truck gives out, there is a bearing issue I have not yet figured out.  Atlas has been more than helpful with spare parts, but so far, I get poor results with rebuilding.

With Mikey's stuff, if something wears out, I replace it, and the model goes back to work.  Understand, our environment is not like a home layout - the trains must run eight hours a day, six days a week.  So far, nothing - nothing - has outlasted the MTH, and that includes scale horizontal motor transmissions.  It is easily ten to one.

Opinion.

Many in O scale are retired peoples. Heck, I got two years on my dad before he died. So, waiting is not my best suit especially on a company trying to get its act together. So far it has been promises from Atlas. I once was told by OMI that they were going to produce a model soon and I should wait so didn't buy  the precission one  instead  waited  15  years for OMI. Lesson learned. Two years, and look MTH makes it DC   DCC  and DCS all in one unit. and the model looks great. sounds great and smokes.

What are you talking about? I have 5 proto 3 dash 8's and they are great. Great sounds, good detail and they run smooth and strong. I have cancelled all my AtlasO pre-orders, I mean how long can you wait plus the fact what have they announced?

Therefore, your views on MTH products and/or a comparison with a non-existent (to date) Atlas product could be considered irrelevant, at best.

All's good.  Some buy for details, some for running dependably.

But bless those who buy detailed shelf queens.  That is where most of my engines went.

I share Bob 2's perspective of MTH.  My most trouble free motive power.  IMO, that DCS is a real neat package all things considered.

My fancy detailed stuff was like a pretty woman with nothing between her ears.  No good in the long haul.  tt

You must be smoking something.  The Altas CW40-8 has been shipping as a Trainman model for their Golden Spike members and details can't be compared to the Master Line B40-8.  I prefer the MTH and in the 2 years since the Atlas announcement,  I obtained a C40 in CSX Primer and Dark Future, CW40 in Bright Future, two Dark Future, CN and a Conrail.  MTH has filled -8 need.  I'm happy enough now to have most of what I wanted/needed.

Simon, I held that thought in the back of my mind for a few years however I have heard also that these companies that make these models are sort of flaky now and getting them to do a model is hard. One would think there are jobs to be had and as these employees that worked for the assemblers want jobs. But then if someone goes out of business in China, what next? The last models I have bought were Atlas offering of the  CZ cars, 2 domes and nothing ordered. I have no desires for what now Atlas is offering now and future models.   Need newer era  models. Atlas  being so slow to the party MTH will produce all them nice GE and SD engines that Atlas won't do now because of their format of not doing things already produced. Plus, Atlas seems more content producing engines in trainman now going after price.

This CW engine was first announced in june 2010 2 years ago. and the other new engine the year before the F3. nothing since. CArs,  coil car and bulkhead announced last year.

I guess that is why my sons buy me t shirts with grumpy on them.

Has any Golden Spike member recieved the GE-8 from Atlas yet?Nothing shows on the Atlas website for delivery of these units. This was a marketing decision by Atlas to introduce there modern diesel[a very popular unit] as a Trainman unit to remain competitively priced, they did throw in the option for all there electronics a move I believe will mean no more new Masterline diesels[too pricey]. The Tman PS 4750 is a good example of another very popular car going the new Tman way[scale body,3rail durability]
