I’ve found two UK railway webcams which should be of interest to many OGR Forum posters. The first is located in Euxton along the West Coast Main Line which is reported to be the busiest mixed traffic (freight and passenger) route in the kingdom. Equipment regularly seen includes Virgin Pendolinos and Voyager/Super Voyagers, Northern Rail DMUs and lots of freight dominated primarily by Class 66 locomotives although other types do appear. Perhaps the highlight of the “day” occurs when the ScotRail Highland Caledonian Sleeper out of London headed for Scotland passes the camera shortly after 12:30AM local time on his approach for the station stop at Preston scheduled for 12:52. Typically powered by a Class 90 electric, the train will consist of up to 18 cars until it is broken into three sections later in the trip. The lights of the long train make for quite a sight as it passes in the midnight blackness.

The second camera is located in Dawlish along the old GWR Exeter to Plymouth Line. Passenger traffic is frequent. A real treat on this line are the former InterCity 125/HST sets operated by First Great Western. As this line is not electrified, service is provided by a variety of types of DMU equipment. Freight trains can be seen as well.

Rail tours and other special trains operate over both lines so always be on the lookout for vintage traction ranging from Class 37 diesels to the UK’s many famous steam locomotives.
Enjoy,
Bob
