When the Red Rocket II went into Razorback Traction Co. service back in 2013, it sported a snappy European pantograph:

Over the years, however, the poor thing simply couldn't take being banged about in carrying cases and the like.

Fortunately, I had a Lionel (Williams?  Don't know) scale pantograph knocking about, sporting a shoe taken from another distressed Euro pantograph...

The first order of business was to straighten out the Euro pantograph so it could be removed and saved for a less robust application...

A Lionel pantograph mounting lug was melted into the roof.  This will allow the pan to be wired for overhead operation at a later date...

Since the scale pan overhangs the cab of the loco...

...basswood support boards were needed.

This, in turn, meant the mounting lug had to be raised a bit.

The finished project!  I will be staining the support boards at some point...

In passing, from what pantograph did that shoe come from?  I recently built one very similar.  Just curious.  Thanks.

Couldn't tell you.  But here's a pic of the donor pan, with another couple of broken Euro pans in my collection and the Red Rocket II with stained support boards (brown watercolor brush pen)...

If you're interested in some project/parts pans, let me know.

Thanks, all, for the compliments!

Geez, I thought I had a pantograph factory here.  Apparently I have more to learn from Dr. Mitch.

I am trying to find a good scale pan for the MTH E33.  For now the plan is to resurrect the MTH stock pan, but I prefer something better.  Some of the good scale stuff is nearly impossible to find.

I have a daily search in eBay for O scale pans.  Pretty much all that's been offered recently is the tinplate GG1 jobs...

Mitch, yes those are the ones. I use scale MTH or Lionel ones. Best pans around for overhead operation. Is the 44 ton called "Old Blue"? Don

Actually, I call this one the "GX-1", as it's the first loco I put into Giraffe Express livery.

How many pans do you have?  And what would you be asking for them?
