It’s Lance Fritz trying to get the Wall Street rail analysts off his back.  The people on “the Street” salivate when they hear “precision scheduled railroading” and at UP’s last investor day Fritz was raked over the coals by the analysts because UP wasn’t like CSX - the last Class 1 to implement PSR.

Wall Street loves PSR; when implemented by the late Hunter Harrison at CN, CP and CSX; it has resulted in fewer assets, fewer people and a better operating ratio.

Precision scheduled railroading also results in lousy service, at least for a time; and upset customers with those having options; moving their business elsewhere.

But; enough of my editorializing.  There have been probably hundreds - if not thousands of articles written about PSR and it’s implementation on CN, CP and most recently CSX.  I would suggest Googling “precision scheduled railroading” and “E. Hunter Harrison” and I promise you there will be enough reading for several days.
