The Big Boy, UP 4014, 4-8-8-4 is on a summer 2021 tour and came to Plaquemine, LA today, 8-20-2021. Plaquemine is about 10 miles southwest of Baton Rouge. The train was on its way to New Oleans for full day stay.
The Strauss heel-trunnion through truss Bascule Bridge was built about 1921. The bridge has been un-operatable for several years but still carries trains.
There was a good crowd of railroad fans that enjoyed the hot morning and got to hear a real steam whistle blow their ear drums.
