This morning I read an interesting article on CNN (travel section) entitled "Germany's railways offered a month of unlimited rides for $9. Here's what happened."
The bottom line - "It has been a barnstorming success" which made me wonder if AMTRAK might/should consider doing this in future?

Good luck with that. At one time I think they had "region" passes, but the price for that was nowhere near $9 and I think it only lasted a week, or two weeks, or a shorter time.
I used to take Shoreline East in CT to go to school with a monthly pass. I had unlimited rides on SLE between new haven and old saybrook. The monthly pass would work on certain Amtrak regionals during commuter hours. Was a sweet deal because it shortened my trip home by about 25 minutes. Many Amtrak conductors were confused and unaware of the deal between CT and Amtrak.
It’s called USA Rail Pass. It’s not unlimited but it’s a number of segments for a fixed price.
