Well, I thought about being "organized", but since it's going to be over a number of days, I figured I'd just toss all the stuff up on the shelves and sort it out later. At least they'll be out, and I can also inventory them while they're up there.

unpacking is much more fun than packing.

Very true
Have all the fun you can! LOL
sharp looking display area John. If ya run out of room, send all overages to my house......Ill pay the freight!..
You find things you have forgotten about, it's an exciting time! Roo.
Moving is kind of like snow. The older you get the less fun it is! ☃️
Just think how great everything will look when it's all unpacked and on display!

Very nice. You get to look at your trains now. Much more enjoyable when viewed rather than being in a box.
Organization is greatly overrated. I mean HOW do you plan to organize? All types of engines together? By RR? By the age of the engine? By command control? By how much you like one or another? By the best looking arrangement? By color? By the last left standing RR to the one that went broke first?
I like your method. Just put them on a shelf.
Gerry
I subscribe to Gerry’s school of thought!

John ,Nice wall of trains so far. Enjoy the unpacking, That's the fun part.

Looks good JOHN!!! Remember pace yourself, a little at a time.
Thanks guys, it's like Christmas in September! I have already spotted a couple of boxes I forgot all about, I didn't realize I had a Legacy Mikado, I thought I sold it!
Its always great finding something you didn't think you had anymore. Keep unpacking and enjoy John.
Congratulations John! It is good you are in the new home and unpacking! Things are looking up!
The adventure continues. 2/3 done with these shelves, but it's clear I'll run out of shelves before I run out of locomotives, gotta' get more shelves up! I haven't even considered all the passenger cars and freight cars! It really is like Christmas, I can't wait to have a place to run some of these!

With THIS crowd, that comment should get a LOT of likes!
How many of those steamers have super chuffers installed?

George,
Chris already got a like from me! This rain from the remnants of Hurricane Flo has all my arthritic joints aching!! I'll be worse off when it snows!
You must be the first model RR'er to run out of shelves, ever.

A lot of the TMCC ones. None of the Legacy, though I am considering one for the C&O 10-Wheeler, it doesn't have idle smoke, and the chuffing leaves something to be desired. It has a smoke logic PCB that just runs the fan, and it also has a standard chuff switch. I could drop the Super-Chuffer right in and get enhanced smoke performance, that would be sweet. The new smaller Super-Chuffer should fit easily where the smoke logic PCB sits, so not fit issues.

Yes, I'm sure I am.
More shelves, or a SALE! LOL
Looks good John. If running out of shelf space was an O gaugers only problem.
Bob
The biggest problem is not shelves, most of the time, it is wall space shortage to install them onto! Nice shelf / display area, John..... looking good.

I do have another 22 foot wall that I'll probably fill with shelves, that will be for more rolling stock and/or complete consists like passenger trains. That's next on the agenda, I'm just trying to get rid of a bunch of big boxes so I have room to work over in the area I need to build more shelves. If I can get a lot of these out of boxes, they'll be a lot more attractive and also take a lot less space.
Still Jonesing for my Mianne bench work to come in so I can get started over there!
You need one of those "Ferris wheel" revolving display cases to save room
... I've always wanted one of those
John: Before we moved and I had shelves up on every wall and space I could find in my old train room and basement and finally ran out of shelves and places to put them and had as much on the layout as possible. When we started to pack up and move I found stuff under the layout packed away since I bought it new, some over 10 years and in the process found that I had almost the same amount packed as I had out. Really upset the wife and shocked the heck out of me. Can I make a suggestion and unpack everything before adding anymore or you may end up like I did with a lot of duplicates.

I agree with Jesse, at least in my case. I want to put in a scenic backdrop, which leaves me with no wall space for shelves. At least for now. If our older daughter would ever get some strong young men over here to move her 100+ year old upright piano out of the new train room, I could put some shelves there. Given the option of moving it myself or waiting, I’ll just wait! I helped move the younger daughter’s spinnet piano, and my piano days are over! LOL

John, You will LOVE your Mianne benchwork!!! It really dresses things up.
Any shelf walls that are angled (like roof angle)? I've been semi-looking for brackets that can be put on angled walls and keep the shelf flat to the floor.
Rick, my buying has greatly tapered off until I get stuff sorted out. I agree with your reading on the situation.
Mark, I have the back leg of the basement that won't have a backdrop, there's where the long wall is. I have a short wall about 5 feet long that will probably get shelves as well, but I'd like to get the big one done first.
Bob, I'm certainly looking forward to getting the benchwork, it does take a lot of time.
Good luck on the move GRJ.
Moving (at least for me) is no fun. Not when I keep losing real estate for my hobby stuff with each move.
It could be worse. At least you have wall space. I don't have any wall space and I don't like to keep things in boxes. So I just add more sidings to my layout. In fact right now I'm waiting on a couple Ross switches to arrive at my LHS so I can rearrange my freight yard...
I actually picked up a little real estate in the move, and all my workshop stuff is on one level now. There's just a ton of stuff to do, and of course other non-train related things waltz into the picture as well...
Excellent on that big wall that won’t have a backdrop! The wall with the lead weight piano is about 7 feet, do that will get some shelves sometime, though that daughter is the procrastinator. Her sister and husband make thing happen as I mentioned with her piano and harp. Hard to believe they grew up together 22 months apart! LOL
You are having too much fun. It’s about time!

Believe it or not, I'm looking forward to the snow. A good snowstorm is a great excuse to stay home and work on the layout.

You did. I've been waiting for you to ship it to me. You said it was packed.
