While browsing on EBay this morning, I came across an unusual Lionel item. It is a meter with the scale marked to "count" up to 1500. I am guessing it is from the Lionel Electronic Laboratories division, which came into being when Lionel purchased Anton. At first I thought it might be from their 455 Scaler, but that item uses a different style meter. Anybody know where Lionel used this meter? (I placed a link at the bottom of this post)

Regardless, it is an interesting item. No comment on the price.
The listing is not mine, nor does it belong to anybody I know.

A company called Lionel made Geiger Counter and Radiation detector stuff after WWII. I don't know if it is the same company. Here are a couple photos of a common unit.

The Lionel Corp purchased Anton Electronic Labs and renamed it Lionel Electronic Labs. The Geiger counter pictured above is one of their products. IMHO, it is a Lionel item.  A number of companies made that model, it was intended for fallout shelters.

Lionel made all sorts of stuff for the military. I have a friend who has collected all sorts of stuff.  As far as I know, Lionel's war production is not well documented in our collector literature. Maybe Bob Osterhoff has written about it, I am not certain.

Here is an article on Lionel's purchase of Anton.

And here is an article on Lionel's 455 scaler.

It's my guess that the meter is from another Lionel Electronics Labs bench unit.
