Significant rainfall in southeastern Nebraska has caused washouts and high water along Union Pacific's main line.

The most significantly affected areas are between the towns of Fairbury and Carleton, Nebraska, where about 25 miles of UP's double main line is out of service. This section of track, along the Marysville Subdivision, is an important artery between Kansas City and North Platte, Nebraska, handling more than 50 trains per day. Damage assessments are underway and more rain is forecast in the area over the next 24 to 36 hours.

Resources are being mobilized to the area to repair the track. No time frame for reopening this line has been established. Traffic will be rerouted when possible, and customers with freight traversing the affected subdivision should expect delays."

This is on the Kansas City- N Platte route, very busy.

expect reroutes across Iowa then down to St. Louis. Also more trains on the Omaha then KC.

Usually eastern Kansas would also get rains, especially the old MKT Parsons Sub and the old MP Coffeyville Sub.  Hopfully they will not get bashed later! Dan

"May  8, 2015 | 4:50 p.m. CDT

Floodwaters resulting from heavy rainfall have begun to recede along the Marysville Subdivision's most significantly impacted area, located between Fairbury and Carleton, Nebraska.

Although no track remains under water, 31 washouts have been identified. A 24/7 effort is underway to return the main line to service; however, forecasted rains this weekend could cause additional washouts and slow the repair process.

Traffic will continue to be rerouted when possible, and customers with freight traversing the affected subdivision should expect delays."
