I thought this topic would be an easy Google, but not really. I think the most up to date publishing date I found was 2008. I was hoping to find something that would include the newer Evolution Series locomotives. I was looking for a field guide with stats. Any suggestions?

You mentioned 2008 so this is probably the book at which you were looking:
Granted, it's been a few years since the book was released but it will still keep you well informed at this point in time. Messrs. Marre and Withers are among the best in the business and titles published under the Diesel Era banner are typically of very high quality. I own most of Diesel Era's previously released books and refer to them often.
For the purposes you indicated, this book is the best you can get today.
