Now the state wants it.

Can't read it without disabling my adblocker; no way!
Read all about the PanAm sale at www.progressiverailroading.com
This is the leading railroad trade magazine AND w/o any ad blockage!
Looks like they're interested in extending passenger service from Fitchburg to North Adams, predominantly. Not really talking about the entire railroad.
Got stuck in North Adams for two days due to low ceilings. Loved the place!
It's official. CSX has agreed to purchase Pan Am, pending Gov approval.

It will be interesting from an anti-trust perspective whether the deal can be finalized. If it passes CSX would own both EW mainlines in Massachusetts.
Also, isn't there PAN Am trackage that they jointly own with NS? I don't think NS would want CSX as a partner.
We live in interesting times.

Yes the Fitchburg line from Ayers, Ma to Mechanicsville NY. NS has spent a lot of money improving that line.
What does Pam Am have that the old B&A line does not?
Does NS want out of NE?
If it goes through the lines in Red will be 50/50 between CSX/NS the rest CSX. The old B&A is not shown but goes through Pittsfield, Springfield, Palmer, Worcester on to Boston. It's the southern route compared to the old B&M Fitchburg line
NS and CSX are joint owners of the Conrail shared assests operations and the WSS Railroad in NC. There are probably others.
