We just wanted to share with the rest of you the great time we had last weekend.  First, our group is growing rapidly with well over 60 members at this point.  April 21st started early for those that were able to attend the Springfield train meet that was held at the Bible College.  There were lots of trains and some really great deals!  At 12:30 most of us were able to attend our luncheon meeting at the Golden Corral just a mile or so from the meet.  Great food and company!  Then we were treated to layout tours at Al and Rose Clair's, Vernon and Mary Hart's, and Wes and Sandy Drummond's.  What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, my wife and I hosted a barbecue for the group and we had at least 25 members attend.  We had an old fashioned menu with all of the traditional fixings and of course everyone had a chance to tour our layout as well as a two rail O-scale trolley based layout belonging to Mickey and Mary Selligman our neighbors.  We even Mike Mottler in attendance,  the Editor of the "Lion Roars" which is the LCCA publication.  Mike and his wife Carol are members of our group.

Hope you enjoy the pictures below....we want all of you to know that if you are interested in being part of our group, please contact me and we can welcome you aboard.  It doesn't matter where you live...we have members that live hundreds of miles away.  Some haven't been able to directly attend our get togethers yet, but as we grow we are working together to find ways to meet every one of the members.  By the way, thanks to Robert Tolley for most of the pictures below...he is our official group photographer!!

Thanks so much for looking,

Alan

Thanks guys!!  As you can see Alex has joined up with us and he lives in New York!!

Brian...you too are a member and you know your "second" home is right here in Mountain Home!

Jim....you don't have to live close to be a member...as you can see Alex and Brian are a distance from my place but we now have folks from Maine to Texas that are members.  The goal is to get enough folks that we can have get togethers in other parts of the country a few times per year...

Alan

Robert - Thank you for taking all the nice pictures.

Frank (Swafford) - Although you would think that there is no way that Alan could add anymore buildings to his layout, I would not be a bit surprised if in the near future he would not have found a way to add such buildings.

Alan - Thank you for posting the pictures, for the great picnic, and for the wonderful weekend.

Everyone had a nice time, and I am sure they are looking forward to the next visit to your layout to see how many more original and well executed details you have added.

This club started about 4 or 5 years ago when some of us narrow gaugers got togather to form a breakfast group to talk trains.  As time went on we picked up more people via the layout tours hosted by the HO group.  We have a varity of scales in our group, ON30, Garden railroads, 3RS, and HO.  The forum brought more people into our fold, Alan set up the club and now we have what we see today.

That is my story and I will stand by it, until one of our members prove me wrong.

As most of us are retired and you are coming to town (Springfield) give us a call.

We will be happy to meet you and show our layouts.

Al, master of the neverdun.

Lionelzw|2012......if you are asking how the Mid-America group started, then this is how I remember it (since I was kind of involved).  Encouraged by my friend Brian (Passenger Train Collector), I posted on the OGR forum a question of how many folks would be interested in joining a group that was informal, no dues, no officers, and made up of folks that were interested in building personal layouts and getting to know others that had the same interests.  The response was really great.  Several folks from the Springfield area that I already knew were very interested so Roger Wasson took my basic ideas of what the group would be about and designed a flyer that we made available at his, Vernon Hart, and Al Clair's table at the October 2011 OGR train meet.  Several folks had contacted me through the OGR forum just before the meet so we had already decided we all would get together for a lunch meeting to see if we could start up the group.  Al Clair was responsible for making the arrangements for our lunch so we would have a place for the meeting.  That is how the Mid-America 3-Railers got started.  Since then, several of the members are also members of other groups that we all interact with....the group to which Al refers is a separate group of model railroaders that the Springfield members knew before the Mid-America 3-Railers got started.

Thanks,

Alan
