I have two Lionel 6-28500 Missouri Pacific MOPAC GP-20 s that I want to upgrade to TMCC or Legacy with the addition of cruise. These were produced in the 1998-2001 time period as “Command Ready” with the addition of the following TMCC upgrade Kits: 6-22960 TrainMaster Command Control Kit; 6-22964 Diesel RailSounds Upgrade Kit; and Electrocouplers: part No. 6-14018. These units have a Pullmor motor. Are theses kits still the best way to upgrade these units? Is there an option to go to Legacy? Cruise is desirable. These kits do not seem to be available on the Lionel web site. Can this equipment still be ordered as individual parts?

I'd forget about upgrading if cruise is important to you, it's not possible with the Pulmore motor. No Legacy option either, at least not at any price you'd want to pay.
The only way to get cruise is first upgrade to a can motor, Frank Timko does those conversions. Then you can upgrade the electronics using ERR parts for the electronics. This will not be cheap, and these will have anemic pulling power with the single small Mabuchi motor driving only one truck. I've done a number of these single motor diesels exactly that way, the only realistic way to run them was in an MU consist with at least two and preferably three powered units to get enough motors and wheels in the mix.
John, Thanks for your helpful response. Setting aside the question of motor replacement and cruise modification, what is the best way to implement a TMCC upgrade?
If you just want a TMCC upgrade with the Pulmore motor, then I can round up the three boards you need for a lot less than the original MSRP of the upgrade kits.
The parts you need are the last four on the list. I have them all in stock.

John, I would like to convert the MP GP20 to basic command control, using the original motor. Do you still have the parts you mentioned? I do not need the coupler part.
Looks like I have everything but the second generic diesel sound board, I'd have to order that from Lionel. I presume you want both command and sound, right?
