Need some help here. I need to find out how to modify the Lionel 6-34120 Direct Lock On, so that it will trip at 360 watt/20 amp. Supposedly Lionel is coming out with a 6-82883 Legacy Powermaster that will do the same thing for $219.00. That promise is now a year old, and still no product. Then again so are the 6-22983 Powerhouses, and the 6-81250 096 curve fastrack. Since I already have three of the direct lock on's, why not upgrade them? On the other hand, I could always wait on Lionel's "the check is in the mail" customer support policy.

Since there were no answers, it looks like a trip to Radio Shack might be the best solution to protect the fragile electronics in my late model Lionel engines.
I've had TMCC since 1996, running off a 1949 ZW with no protection other than the internal one in the transformer. Not a blown board yet!

I would like to reopen this question. I would like to modify the 6-34120 Direct Lock-On to trip at 80W. I am not worried about protecting the electronic circuits. I am worried about protecting the plastic trucks from the heat generated by a derailment. This was not a problem when all trucks were metal but with plastic I have had literal meltdowns by the time my ZW or KW circuit breaker trips. I am using a ZW or KW to power my TMCC so the transformer in use is always set to maximum voltage.

I'd just go with a modern transformer. I use the PH180 transformers, they trip in a flash with a quality electronic breaker. FWIW, the TMCC Direct Lockon also kills the DCS signal, so if you run DCS, it's not a good choice.
