Referencing USB standards, type A USB 2.0 plug is specified for 5VDC @ 0.5A max. Type A USB 3.0 plug specified as 5VDC @ 0.9A max. I could not find how much a USB plug could handle, obviously not more than 1 to 2 amps looking at contacts.
Googling USB chargers however there are some having multiport with overall rating of 12 amps or about 1.2A per port. Or conversely use small chargers scattered around layout, minimizing voltage drops. Of course if you are concerned you can add a cheap 2A diode in series to reduce voltage to 4.3-4.4V.
Have not done cost analysis for USB cable and charger costing vs a single switcher supply feeding accessories. I have seen USB type A plug and cables at Salvation Army and Goodwill for virtually nothing cost vs Best Buy $$$tores.
Wonder what gurus think of using a charger and plugging in USB cables and extending cables to accessories? Just throwing out an idea.
