I was browsing through a local Lowes store in search of a paint color for the family room. The variety of paint color chips was daunting, when I saw a small sign by the Valspar section that said all of the colors were available in a spray can...The clerk said it was enamel..Hmmm..I thought of all the hassles I had gone through in trying to find matching colors for tinplate restorations.. especially faded colors. I might be tempted to try this on a sample rustbucket as I could always take it off by stripping..I thought I would just pass along this discovery..

While I like the idea of matching a color and putting it in a spray can I have not had many good results with Valspar. The finish doesn't come out right and the can will clog leaving plenty of paint in the can with no way to get it out. Not sure if that has to do with it being enamel or not.  I would love to be able to match the Polar Express colors and make a tinplate set.

Thanks for the tip..I will follow through on that, and Chris..The Valspar spray can be temperamental. I always give it a long shake and clean the nozzle afterward with a Q-Tip and brush cleaner..The most issues I have had with Valspar is with their sealers...which I won't use. Ill try this with a rust bucket and look for the signs of what you mentioned. The NAPA spray might be a better way to go as I am working with stripped and primed bare metal..Ill have to see the color samples. TBD.

Valspar makes all clear resons for all paint companys ,PPG Dupont,Crossfire ,RM Glasseras..Valspar is good.. Ive been using there spray can semi gloss clears on my PRR S1 Duplex when I been doing touchup repainting on it.. looks great.. Just got done with it.. had new lettering done for it too.. Kid that owns a sign shop done them for me.. 10.00 is a great deal too!.I'll post pics of in in a hour or so!..I use base coat clear coat systems on all my hobby stuff,to cars to R/C gas boats to model trains.. With your tin plate.. after you strip them down to bear metal.. put an etch primer on them first before you prime them to paint.. etch prime will bite into the metal.. give a surface for primer and paint to bite on to.. you can buy it in a spray can for advance autoparts or autozones stores... I do autobody paint for aliving..just wanted to give you guys good advice..
