I recently picked up some trains and there are two items that seem to be fairly rare (I know that word is overused).  I want to inventory them in my collection and would like to have a value on them for insurance purposes.  I can't find any listing (current or sold) on Ebay.  I'm sure they don't have a lot of value but I like my insurance records to be accurate.

The first one is a Senco Sound Tender.  Overall it seems to be in excellent condition with good lettering and the internal electronics.  I don't have any of the other items that this came with to make it work so for now it is just the tender.

The second item is a Thomas Railroad Flat Car with stakes (number 1006).  It is also in excellent condition.  It took me a little while to identify it but thanks to the Western Division TCA, they have an excellent history review of Thomas RR items.  I originally thought someone had modified a Lionel 3451 Log dump car but found this to be an original Thomas RR flat.  Again, nothing is showing up on Ebay in current or past sales.

Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't consider them rare because that to me indicates some potentially large value.  I don't think the value on these would be very high but I like accurate records for insurance purposes.  I put them more in the unusual/oddball area.  Unfortunatelly, I packed them away before taking pictures.  I was just hoping that someone here might have a guestimate on value based on their experience.

The Senco tenders are tough to assign a value to because very few people know they exist, an unfortunate case when items are too obscure. Several years ago I sold several mint, boxed examples on ebay. These included the mixing box, record, and paperwork. I think they sold in the $150-175 range. There were also some unboxed like new tenders without the extras and they probably sold in the $40-50 range. I’ve also seen these sell very cheaply; $10-15. Most people buy them as a curiousity.

Thomas Industries stuff is a bit easier to price because more people know about it and collect it. The freight cars are generally harder to find than the passenger cars. I believe there are also deluxe and regular versions for most of their cars; the deluxe models had extra detail. Deluxe models command much higher prices. I’m not an expert in pricing Thomas stuff but I’ve seen a fair amount of it sell over the years. A regular stake pocket flat is probably worth between $30 and $75 depending on condition and if its boxed.
