As usual, I went downstairs to run my trains. I have Variable 2 in fixed mode so I can run My PS2 engines on my outer loop. All of the sudden, the breaker on my Z750 brick keeps blowing. I tried the brick on my other channels, no problem. I tried other bricks on the Variable 2 channel, and the breaker trips at about 9 volts. I opened my TIU, and no fuses appear to be blown. Is My Variable 2 channel bad?

Try this simple test.
- Disconnect the wires from both the input and the output of Variable #2
- Turn on the transformer. If the breaker trips, the problem is in the wiring between the transformer and the TIU inputs. If not, proceed below
- Leaving the outputs of Variable #2 disconnected, connect the transformer to the Variable #2 inputs. If the breaker trips, the problem is in the TIU. If not, the problem is in the tracks or the wiring connected to Variable #2 out.
Great explanation Barry. Best of luck Cleartracks01, hope you find an easy inexpesive solution.

I have performed these steps, with all of my bricks, and The Breaker kicks at about 9 volts. The wiring to my track is fine, tested with a z controller and no breakers kicked. It is clearly this channel on my TIU. What should I do now?
Did the breaker pop in step 2 or step 3?
When you switched bricks, did you connect them to the wires that normally run from a brick to TIU? If so, disconnect all wires from the channel input, and connect a brick directly to the TIU terminals with different wires.
What I was getting at was not to use the existing wires that feed to the TIU from the brick(s), since the problem could be in that wiring. I don't know how the wires are run on your layout---whether they're hidden or visible.
Just to be clear, when the breaker tripped, was the TIU connected to the tracks?
Sounds like a diode blew and shorted for VAR Channel 2. Can be repaired by a MTH Tech. G

Alright, I'll take it in. I appreciate the help. What could have caused that To happen?

So did this just happen by chance? Similar to many pc parts I've shipped back because they just become bad At random?
