Trying out our new DCS and have the fixed channels working fine. Trying to move our Coke train to the DCS remote. I plugged the CW80 into the TIU channel 4 and pulled the handle up. I set the variable 2 track to DCS off. I selected the track and and the voltage was zero. I increased the voltage, the track got power and the engine started to make whistle noises and barely move. I added power but still nothing. If I put it back on the CW80 directly if worked fine.

I would try a different transformer. The lionel CW80 will not run some of the ps2 mth engines plus might try make sure your wires not switched red to center rail and black to outside rail or maybe dirty track or pick up rollers.
It's not a PS2 engine, the Lionel Coke General that runs conventional.
I did try moving one of MTH bricks to that channel and it worked. So there must be some issue with the CW80 and the TIU. The CW80 runs the train fine normally so I know it's good.
Ok sorry you didn't say what engine you was running. I'm not sure what to tell you. Hope somebody else chime in here knows more then me.
Apparently the electrical wave is chopped twice. once with the var channel and again with the CW80. not a good combination.at least nothing is broken.
Our old lionel post war transformers are a pure since wave.
