Hi All,

I have a brand new engine that has very low engine sounds. It’s probably two thirds to three quarters lower than all my other engines. It’s PS3, the volume is all the way up via the DCS remote and the volume pot under the cab is all the way up. I think there’s a slight hum once the engine is started. Video attached. The sound seems fine in the video because the phone was so close to record.

Those S-2 switchers have small speakers and some came with 8 ohm speakers (PS3 requires 4ohms).  They are a pain to open, but you can unscrew the fuel tank to check the speaker.  If you have a standard 50mm 4ohm speaker with a harness, you can unplug the installed speaker and use the test speaker to see if it is any louder.  Some sound sets are also low volume, for some reason.

My smallest PS3 engine, the 44 tonner, has the loudest and best sounds of my fleet, even though I'm certain the speaker is small.  Ironically, my next smallest, the IR box cab, has similarly low sounds like MCD4x4 described.  No matter how high I set it, it pales in comparison to the 44 Tonner. Great running engine otherwise and if no other engines are operating on the layout, the sound is acceptably perceptible. However, it is easily drowned out by the rest of the fleet when running simultaneously.
