I ran trains on a brand new layout at The Old Town Model Railroad Depot, in Old Town San Diego, CA on Friday. It's open to the public, FREE ADMISSION, and right in the heart of Old Town. Only footsteps away from great Mexican Food, bars, and gift shops in Old Town. The layout was built in just over 60 days from start to finish, and opened to the public just before Thanksgiving last year (2014). It's a 2 track mainline, with reverse loops, large mountain scene and HUGE lighted city scene. This 1st video is just one half of the layout, the day time scene, that runs by the lake, dam, across the double track trestle, up the mountain, back down through town, and across the truss bridge just before heading into the night city scene.

It's 1080p HD.... go full screen

Stayed tuned for part 2, night time in the city.........

Interesting I lived in San Diego for several years. It was a very nice place with quite a few hobby shops and several clubs. I was a member of the All Gauge Toy Train Association, a really great group of guys with many good friends.

The only train shop in Old Town when I was there was a place that really only did Thomas stuff for the little ones. Up the hill is Frank The Trainman and was the now closed hobby shop in Hillcrest. Good luck to you. Nice layout.

for clarification the old town model railroad depot llc is not a club open for membership as of this date.  it was built by a private individual.  if you want to run your train on his layout all you have to do is call ahead and make arrangements.

ps, not my layout nor am I involved in it's operation.
