A couple of folks e-mailed about my moving boat on lake.  Here is a brief video and some pictures.

The lake is made out of a four by eight foot piece of 5 mm luann paneling cut to shape: a full eight feet long and maximum of 39 inches wide.  Six inches under it there is a platform with an O-27 loop with a BEEP which has a honking big neodymium magnet Gorilla-taped to its roof.  The boats are made of cardstock (manila folders) and very light (the one in the video weighs less than 2.5 oz) and have a very small magnet in the bow.

This is the boat in the video . . .

Most popular with visitors in this one, a model of my youngest boys ski boat and his fiance' skiing behind it.

I have some sailboats and a big cabin cruiser, too, but this is my favorite.  It is made from manila folder paper, too, a 1:48 scale model a Fairey Marine Huntress 23, the boat that James Bond and Tatiana Romonova use to make their getaway in From Russia with Love.

Neatest idea I've seen in a long time!

Thanks.

Not easily, but its not suspended.  There is just a table 30" by six foot long under there that I adjusted (shims under the legs) to exactly the right height, and the track is laid on top of it (and screwed down in a few places).

Well, a 'Streets DB5 would be cool.  I checked just now and it is just wide enough that a conversion might work.  Some sports and GT cars are too narrow to fit on the rails.  This is just barely

. . . it would have to be the old vintage truck chassis.  I'll check if it looks feasible.  It would be a nice car . . .

Anyway, James Bond is on the layout another place, all the time.  Here he is pulled by the side of the road up in the mountains.  He's certain there is a secret rocket base somewhere around there.  Anyway, I modeled him in his classic cinema poster pose.
