I wanted to share my first running of these. I will add a video of them with the vision line tank cars later.

Awesome thanks for the video. Love the Genset too.
Thanks for posting! Theres seems to be alot more dialogue to these than one thinks. I've seen 3 videos of these and each one is a little different.
The online manual also indicates holding the loading button down longer will get the bossman to encourage the guys to hurry up with additional dialogue.
The squealing sounds very realistic, i've not heard a demonstration of the "flat spotted wheel" sound.
Here is a video with the tank cars added to the train. What do you think?
Try moving the sound cars farther from the locomotive so you get the separation of the sounds. And by all means, fix that flat wheel!
Gunrunnerjohn - I had the reefer in the front to test whether it would come open. Some have complained of a coupler problem. I have not had a problem on mine yet.
I have a feeling the flat wheel is fixed now
I'm glad you were able to fix that flat wheel.
I have a whole bunch of Menards cars that are going to get the treatment. I'll drag the two track cleaning cars behind them to add some resistance to running and see if anything pops.
I got my second set of the VL-PFE Reefers, so I have to get them all on the rails and see how they perform.
More great video David! Sounds like the brakes might be dragging on one of the cars
It sure sounds like a real train going by. I think there could be a huge market for these sound cars, different car types, roadnames etc.
IMO Lionel is merely scratching the surface with these, whatever few extras were left last night were long gone by today.
Hi David,
That sounded very realistic, I'm going to pick up my set this week.
Thanks for posting!!!!!
Alex
Very nice.
IMO Lionel is merely scratching the surface with these, whatever few extras were left last night were long gone by today.
I have to get cracking!
I am hoping for more of the modern cars with sounds to add to my train too. Great time for these Lionel!
This video is so cool, and the sounds are so authentic and the layout is awesome.
Thanks for sharing and Now I wish I had ordered 2 sets....Happy Railroading
Just me, but I certainly wouldn't want to listen to that racket for any period of time when running trains. Sounds like what a brass band made up of deaf 5th graders might sound like.
If I want a racket like that, I'll just crank up the blender and make margaritas.
Breezinup, trains are loud animals. But it isn't just you. There are times when quiet trains are fun. With these cars you have complete control over volume. You also have control over the types of effects played. In my video I have the flat wheel and dragging brakes to show what can be done. If you desire you can turn those off and get more random rail sounds and turn down the volume. It is certainly not 5th grade band stuff. This is a very well orchestrated symphony of sound - that's coming from a musician.
Wow, I have to say that, Yes, the sounds can get a little Loud, But, This is what got me back into the HOBBY. Command Control, DCS, LIONEL'S LEGACY CONTROL, all of these command Systems offers so much more Realistic Operation of Our Trains. Crew Talk, Tower Com, Caboose Talk, Station Sounds Cars, Diesel Sounds, HOOTER WHISTLES, Cattle Car Sounds, Wheel Slippage Sounds, Even Super Bass Diesel Sounds that will Blow Your Ears Off, and now, The Amazing Reefer Car Sounds To Enhance our New Big Boys, WHATS NEXT......There is one more thing to mention, All of these Amazing Sounds can be turned OFF. It's the Best Of Times to Be in this Wonderful World of Model Trains.....WE OWE Our Manufacturers a Big Thanks, For a Job Well DONE.....Happy Railroading...
I think when I get a few of my sound cars assembled that it'll be super neat to have a train that has realistic freight car running sounds throughout the length of the train. I think it's going to be super cool, regardless of what others think.
I converted my Vision line tank cars to two rail. They just play the minimum sounds. They're perfect for adding realism to the train. They are not over the top.
I really look forward to getting some more to spread out thru a longer train consist. I can only imagine if Lionel had put these sounds into modern reefers with the wheel noises and the cooling units running.
That might have put it "over the top"!!
Now that I've had some time to cool down and run them, I love mine. They add just enough sound to the train to be enjoyable. And you should of seen my 11 year old's face when I made them talk, he wasn't expecting that (Nor did he know that I had such a thing.). When running my VL BB and reefer train at the same time as my K-Line BB, I have to turn the VL train's sounds way down or else I can't hear the K-Line. It is so quiet and I which I could make it louder, but the volume pot is already all the way up.
A replacement speaker and baffle makes a huge difference in some versions, something to look into for your K-Line.
Maybe I should open mine up and run them .. They sound nice and loud .
