TM Books and Videos wrapped up a video production of our layout today. Joe Stachler served as both the Producer/Videographer and it was a very enjoyable three days with him. I had met Joe many years ago in when I lived in the Chicago area. We arranged to pick him up at the Portland airport and I was sure to wear my Sante Fe Chief jacket so he could readily recognize me. It worked as he had no problem picking me out of the crowd at baggage claim.

Creating a video of a layout is no small job. Hours are spent taking video images, doing the interviews, and then making sure that the results are what is required. Joe was terrific to work with and really knows O-Gauge trains and many leaders in this hobby. We had some great conversations about our mutual hobby.

Joe is now on his way to Dedham, Massachusetts, to do a video production of Marty Fitzhenry's wonderful layout. It will be a real treat for us to be on the same video release with Marty.

Here are a couple of photos of Joe hard at work.

Charlie and all:

The big push will be to have the video ready for distribution by Thanksgiving. Since a lot of it has to do with a Christmas theme, they have a deadline to meet.

When they contacted us about doing the video production, I forgot all about the smaller Christmas layout we have in the first level of our home. I had not got around to dismantling it to make a larger version to accommodate 0-72 curves. When Elizabeth mentioned this layout to Joe, he was sure happy to have two layouts to include. This is one time being slow on the draw actually paid off.

Joe wanted to include the scale PE 1225 Berkshire with the scale PE passenger cars and the best place to show off this train was the Christmas in the City portion of our layout. The problem is the curves in this part of our layout are 0-42. I said let's chance it and give it a try. To our surprise, it worked even though the engine is rated at 0-54. I would not do this again as it is not ideal, but for the purposes of the video, it came off really well.

Great news....

I for one will be looking forward to seeing more of your outstanding layout.

Also looking forward to seeing the interviews as Joe knows how to get you talking about those train stories that really are what connect us all....

Joe is a pleasure to work with and a real artist. We spent a few days with him back when he filmed our layout for the Christmas video. He really knows how to get the best out of any layout.

Congratulations Brian!!

How about a special "Extended Cut" for the true aficionados of 21" passenger cars?  Seriously though, I wish they would start selling train videos that can be embedded on mobile devices and then streamed.   We aren't too far away from the time when the DVD will go by the wayside.

I too would like the Blu-ray version if it is available.

Thanks for allowing the filming of your layouts Brian and Marty.
