Very interesting rides. Might consider taking the Cardinal to Staunton, staying a while and riding both scenic routes.
We rode the Virginia Scenic Railway this past Friday. We were on the afternoon run, the Blue Ridge Flyer, that goes East from Staunton to Ivy, then returns to Staunton. It's very well done.
Train approaching the Staunton Amtrak station from the West
Locomotive. Looks like it was just painted.
Passenger car they had restored.
Interior of the car, very nicely done. Food and service were excellent.

This is a trip I'm going to have to take. The diner/observation looks outstanding. Did they say what its heritage is?

Only about an hour from me. Have to book a fall excursion. The Shenandoah Valley is gorgeous that time of year!

Our hostess said it dates from the 1940's and before this life it was used as a staff break room at Lake Anna. I didn't catch every word but the interior of the car was done in Tennessee.
