Does anyone know if the Virginian RR had passenger service? I have a set of Williams Madison cars painted for the Virginian RR with Shenandoah Limited on the side. Is this just a made up paint scheme?
The Virginian ran 2 passenger trains, #3 westbound and #4 eastbound, on each of 2 divisions from the 30's until the mid to late 50's. These trains were all coaches. There were a few more passenger trains in the early 30's. In any event, the Shenandoah Limited is fantasy.
I'm a Pennsy guy, but a good friend models the VGN in HO. This information is from him.
The Virginian's coaches were green as well. At the end of passenger service what coaches there were, were N&W due to a court order that the cars be air conditioned. Virginian opted to lease for a short period instead of buying to meet the court order.
Also Virginian never had a blue and yellow paint scheme, that was started by Lionel in the 1950s. The Virginians diesels were black and yellow
