2 questions: I saw a Lionel CN Genset advertised as Vision Line....I knew the UP was Vision

, but didn't know which others were as some were changed and dummied down a little. Was the Lionel CN a true Vision Line.

Next, I have MTH DCS system right now with the attachment to also run TMCC engines but I would like to run Vision Line with all the bells and whistles. What do I need to buy? I thought I read some time ago that I should wait because the control system was being updated?

Thanks guys! I have to tell you that this Forum is a godsend for someone like me that has only been in the hobby a few years!!!

The only 2 gensets that are vision line are the up and the ns...There all metal still just one smoke unit. To run legacy will all the bells you would need a legacy base.  That means you need the remote sorry ..You could use a tmcc base it would run the trains with the mth remote but you lose the 150 steps on throttle ..

All of the Lionel Gensets have an MSRP of $799 , but only the UP and NS were Vision Line with 3 smoke units.  All the other road names have just one smoke unit shared among the 3 smokestacks.

That being said, the CN Genset has been blown out for several months now in the $450-$500 range by many dealers.  Only you can decide if the Vision Line units are "worth" the extra $$$, but for me it was a no-brainer to grab the CN one at that price.

JoJo is right; don't be misled into thinking that anything other than the UP and Norfolk Southern models were Vision Line models. The others did not have the full range of smoke and sound features of the two Vision Line models.

And he's right that you need a Legacy control to access all of the features or at any rate to run them in the way they were intended to work. If you plan on getting other Legacy locos it's a relatively small investment.
