First time poster.  Please accept my apologies if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find any post when I searched the forums. I have a couple questions.

1.   What is the difference between the Vision Line Genset Switchers (UP & NS) released in 2009 and 2010 and the recent legacy switchers released by Lionel in 2013, 2014, 2015?  Is the three operating smoke stacks the only difference at this point?

2.  What is the difference between the Vision Line Canadian Pacific ES44AC released in 2010 and the ES44AC's released in 2014-15?

3.  Same question for the Vision Line GE Evolution from 2009 and Lionel's recent releases?

Steam engines comparisons are much easier for me to figure out through my research, but I am having a difficult time understanding the differences in the diesel locomotives.   I appreciate any information you could provide in answering these questions, and I thank each of you in advance for your time.

Chris.

Chris,

Some help with your questions:

1.  The VL Genset switchers have 3 operating smoke units that operate in direct conjunction with the RPM level of the engine.  What I mean by this: Upon engine start-up, one smoke unit would emit smoke, then as you increased the levels of RPM on the unit, the additional units would begin to function (thus giving quite a nice effect!).  Furthermore, these units featured a fully detailed cab interior (analogous to the die-cast ES44s that you speak of in points 2 and 3).

2/3.  The CP and GE Evo ES44 Hybrids were Lionel's only Vision Line ES44 renditions. They feature all die-cast construction (they are extremely heavy) along with a multitude of highly advanced features:

-Battery Charging Lights (which is true to the GE Evolution Hybrid Prototype)

-Fully detailed cab interiors

-Illuminated cab dials/gauges

-Exceptional level of detail

-Intelligent smoke units that vary output in conjunction with the RPM level of the Engine

They are among some of the most desirable pieces Lionel has ever made.

I hope this helps,

Michael

So, if I understand you correctly, the only difference for the Vision Line Genset Switchers is that they have three operating smokestacks.

As for the CP and GE Evo ES44 Hybrids, don't the new ES44s from 2014 and 2015 have detailed cab interiors, battery charging lights, exceptional level of detail?  How about intelligent smoke units?

Just trying to figure out what exactly the differences are.

Chris.
