I did not realize there were any left out there for ordering. I too would take one today.
Pat was most helpful (as he always is) and got me through a SNAFU while ordering this PFE reefer set on his website.
Being the ultimate salesman he is; he also helped me devastate the balance on my credit cards with the addition of the two other sets of PFE reefers AND the upcoming Lionel NYC ESE set AND the 2 car add-on set AND the StationSounds diner!!!
GEE ZOWIE!!!!!!!!... (am I easy or what?)
... and I thought I had just about recovered from my purchase of a Legacy Big Boy, Legacy Cab Forward, Legacy 990 controller and 2 Lion Chief sets from him.
Best,
Dave
Order placed.

You're just too easy Dave.
Yep, sounded pretty good, but we didn't hear all the sounds. It was also a prototype, don't know if the final version will have the same set of sounds.
My VL tank cars are plenty loud, I don't think I'd want more volume. How loud do you need them?
Maybe it's not the fault of the VL tank car volume. I know at the club when we get half a dozen trains running it gets pretty loud (and smoky). I suspect in that environment that the cars would be harder to hear, but so are the locomotives!

Time to crank up the hearing aid.
Or run your trains slower. I know for me the faster I run the trains, the less I can hear the sounds do to track noise.

Humor impaired?

2 pick up rollers on a moving caboose seem to be twice as loud as 6 moving freight cars!
John, so I'm easy huh?
Hearing impaired? no question about it !!!
Humor impaired - NEVER, its what makes the world go 'round.
BTW, to whom am I addressing these remarks? What's your name again? Oh yea, Sue!
Best,
Dave What's his name...
You've got my order Pat.
I am looking too. The folks who posted here seem to be out.
Try the major dealers, other than that I'm not sure where you'd find them now.
Just got a call from Nicholas Smith Trains... Vision Line reefers with freight-sounds are in. YES!!!!
David
Yup bought the last 2 sets
Still looking for a set.
I just called stockyard express - they say they haven't received theirs yet but fingers crossed they'll get them soon!!!!
I'm hoping to get my sets soon.
I'm with everybody else-been waiting on these since announced. I was really disappointed when they didn't show last NOV, and kept getting pushed to the right. However, I know they'll be worth the wait!
" they are the same color. I'd find it hard to believe Lionel would change the color now. sure, they don't match the MTH color, but I'm okay with that."
I saw lots of these when I was a kid and it was hard to find two with the same color due to their cross country runs thru tunnels and storms of various types. If lionel and MTH makes them in different colors that's a positive. They could even do better by making them in a wider range of colors from brand new bright orange to sooty black to faded yellow..DaveB
My PFE Reefers arrived this week and they look and sound great. I have one gripe: 2 cars have couplers that pop open frequently even with a light load of 6-8 cars. This is pretty annoying given the $250 cost of the set of 3 cars. C'mon Lionel, how about some quality control?
I hate to have to send it back to Lionel. I'm debating popping the rivet and taking them apart to file the coupler as described here. Anyone else having this problem or a solution?
Anyway, did I mention that the cars look and sound great?
Here's a video (the reefer shows up at 30 sec):

I like to get one. I tried to see if a dealer has any I can't locate one. Does anyone know where to get this visionline version?

Not VisionLine ones, but the matching sets also sold would pop open on me too. But it was only on curves. In looking at them closely I found that by moving the coupler on it's pivot point it would open. So I looked closer and found that there was some interference causing the release linkage to move when the coupler moved. This happened to me on O72 curves, so I'd hate to see how it would of happened on the rated O31. So I bent part of the linkage enough so that it was now not moving as the coupler pivoted around curves. Now I'm down to just one that opens if it's not at the end of the train due to not being able to hold the weight of several other reefers.

Hop in your time machine and travel back a few months and place a pre-order.
Seriously, I'd just call around until you locate a set, I suspect there are still sets available.
Did you check who listed it?
There are Four(4) types of rolling stock vision cars that have been out so far.
1) the actual vision flat with a screen
2) the stockyard cars
3) the tankers; and
4) the PFE freight car.
It seems that if these Vision offerings were of interest there were a lot of opportunities to either acquire or plan to acquire one of them.
Also given the popularity, there will be many many more so keep an eye on the catalogs.
THERE ARE THREE AUCTIONS ON EBAY NOW FOR THE PFEs
Coupler problems?? For 2 people?
Four sets listed on ebay. Lowest is $299 and the highest is $499.

Looks like they'll go the way of the tank cars. I actually picked up the VL Cattle car at a good price here in the for-sale forum.
I don't mind a train item appreciating in value for a change. I hardly ever buy new stuff because of the large drop in value over time.
gunrunnerjohn - I am really looking forward to seeing and hearing what you produce. I want my trains to sound real. When you are by the tracks and a train comes by whether it is fast or slow, it is a real sound experience. The rails sing. The flat wheels bump. There is creaking and groaning. I hope you capture that in an easy to install and use product. I think the big boys are missing out on lots of $s for such a product.
I'm looking for sources of real train sounds, so if you have any ideas, I'm all ears.
