Tender has stopped all sound and lights. Loco has normal sound and lights. Would appreciate suggestions for what to check to correct. Am new to model training. Thanks!

First thing is to see if power is getting in I suspect. What happens if you put it on the tracks by itself? It should come up in conventional mode without the locomotive connected.
By itself tender makes no sound and no rear red lights. Pickup rollers have good contact and rotate smoothly. Loco and other pieces no problem. This is at Angel Gate Hi-Rail Club in San Pedro. CA. This VisionLine 4014 is less than 6 months old. First couple of months the tender operated normal.
It can't be less then 6 months old as the locomotives were released years ago. I'd say the boards in the tender have failed. I had a board fail in my VL BB locomotive from just sitting on my shelf for 2 years untouched (Ran just fine, put it on shelf. Couple years later put it back on the track and it didn't work.). It does happen. Lionel was helpful to me figuring out which board went bad and they shipped me the replacement right after I paid for it.
Yes, this model came out some years ago. I purchased recently "new" in sealed box. Will dialog with Lionel and seek their assistance. Thank you.
Keep us up on the solution.
