I have a 2010 VisionLine Challenger 6-11220. Smoke units work well but I thought it might be time to change the smoke batting. So my question? Is it doable for someone who thinks their skill level is a 2, ( using a 1-10 scale)?

Truthfully? Probably not. That being said, have you taken a Lionel large articulated steamer apart and got it back together successfully? The VL Challenger from 2010 is pretty busy inside.

I am successful with Diesels( SD40’s, GP 9 and NW2’s). Plenty of room for fat fingers. Successful with Legacy Allegheny and a Legacy Berkshire. I failed miserably with a Legacy H10, and I am being kind using the word ‘miserably’. After my H10 Disaster, I’ve been on restriction.
Only you can assess your abilities, but I still stand by my previous post advice.

Thanks. I’ll kool my enthusiasm.
Smoke wicks are going to get brown/black during operation, it's normal. Once smoke production goes waaay down or the unit stops putting out smoke then worry about changing the wick. Otherwise leave it be.
