Visit to Strasburg, Pa. Today

Those are all the stops on a trip to York for us. To bad about the TCA museum. I haven't been since the upgrade so I can't give any opinion on that. Glad you had a good time anyway. 

For those of you going on the RR during the Summer, the best trains are the ones leaving on the hour. You can stand on the platform of the end "open" car and have the engine "in your face" on the trip out. The train on the half-hour has a small closed-off platform.

Don't forget the Toy train Museum and the Red Caboose Motel just up the road from Strasburg railroad. Also there is the Choo Choo Barn, an indoor O gauge layout for all ages to see.

Lots to see for the train buff, I enjoyed it. Being retired is great. 

One thing I point out is that the one thing that never gets old at the TCA Toy Train Museum is the extensive library. Walking in there is like walking back in time.

The Toy Train Museum and TCA Museum are one and the same.  I know a lot of work and money was put into the renovations but I also find it less inviting than before - not sure why, maybe the "cold" color of the new LED lighting, maybe the new floor plan, probably a combination of things.  But also agree with comment above that the library is still a wonderful place with great resources and a very helpful and knowledgeable librarian.

I think that most of us familiar with the TCA and the Museum realize that this facility has been a rather expensive proposition for the past several years. The issues with the sewer system alone has cost big bucks to resolve. Balancing a budget under these conditions is not easy and add to this a declining membership and recent dues increase.

With that being said, I am still glad that the Museum exists and is available to it's members and the general public. It may not be perfect, but certainly represents our hobby very well. As finances improve, hopefully we will see improvements in the future. The TCA represents most of us so it is up to us to stand behind it and support it in any way we can.

     Retirement is certainly great, and one of the nicest parts of retirement is the ability of volunteering. Since you live in Exton,Pa.,about 45 minutes-1 hour away from the TCA museum, I am sure they could use your help and volunteer to help clean and spruce up a great treasure like the TCA museum in the Strasburg,Pa. area.

Do you have to make an appointment to go in there? Or just walk in during museum hours?

I enjoy the Museum library when at York. It seems the choice of items for display are not as interesting as they use to be. What did they do with all the postwar trains? Sadly the museum is just a money pit costing members way too much $$$.

No appointment necessary. Just walk in during there opening hours and show them your TCA card.

Non members are welcome but there is an admission fee.
