My VL Hudson will fun a feet feet then stop, reset does not help. Took the engine and tender off the track and placed a Legacy engine and it ran great.  Also placed the Hudson on the same track as my VL Bigboy and got the same problem.  VL Bigboy runs super,

I think the antenna on the engine maybe the problem. ordered this engine a few years ago and really like it, with the exception of whistle steam (doesn't work well)  .

All comments will be appreciated.

Just tried to run the engine (9M) worked super, smoked , talk, horn blew, engine ran for about 60 feet then stopped. engine was making noise and smoking but no response to the  Legacy 990,

After stopping, the headlight was "blinking" , tried the restart button, did not respond.

Never tried to run in conventional. Will have to (an will)  read up on the instructions tomorrow.

i have reprogrammed to be sure it was still in Legacy Mode.

Thanks for all the comments,

Brent

for those in the tech/repair side how many headlight blinks is it making?  this will give a better indication of issue you are experiencing. after it stops you said it makes noise? as in normal sounds or?

The blinking (flickering) of the headlight is an indication of poor or loss of the engine signal.  There is no flash code associated with it.  If the Cab light were flashing that does have codes and that would be more telling.  I suspect he is having a signal issue if the headlight is misbehaving either because of a board issue or antenna in the locomotive or a track signal issue from the base.

Is the Legacy base plugged into a properly grounded outlet?  Is the track "U" connection secure?  Since the other engines work I suspect the engine more than the Legacy base but it is worth the look.

Thanks all for the comments. All have been tried (except conventional)

The engine ran great this morning for about 200  feet, tried the AUX -restore, worked  for about 150 feet then stopped, tried the same again with zero results.

Shut the power down and waited about 15 minutes, Powered up and it ran, smoked, talked good for about 120 feet (3laps) and stopped, headlight blinked, tried (aux-reset) work for a few minutes  and stopped. Noticed that the smoke was weak, so I let the engine cool for a few minutes, shut the smoke off, ran the engine for about 7-8 minutes and then it stopped.

Looks like it will need to be repaired but not by me, the only thing I have touched with a tool was to replace the tractor tires.

Don't mind paying for repair but all the repair folks live a long way from Texas.

Thanks for the comments.
