I am working on a project to construct some walnut storage silos. They are approx. 3 inches in diameter (12 feet) and 4-1/2 inches (18 feet) high. I have pre-painted some of the silos because I cannot get back to the areas after platforms and conveyors are installed. Since the silos will be weathered, I do not have to worry about a neat paint job.

Are there walnut hopper cars perhaps? To take walnuts by the ton to large plants like this.   Or do they just bring them in to a small local facility like this model, but only  on trucks, process and package them there, and then shipping them out?

Andrew,

All the materials are from Plastruct. The heads (domes) are code VHD-300.

The facility being modeled was a Diamond Walnut Plant located on the train tracks in the vicinity of Tall Oaks, California. I am only building the tanks. The building has already been constructed.

Lee,

I think the walnuts are harvested and delivered by truck to the plant. I constructed a small shed and a dump area in front of the tanks based on the pictures I was given.

Alan, do you make and/or keep a plan of your scratch builds like this? I also think this could be easily used as a brewery or chemical plant or many other plants or businesses. If someone else wanted one of these would you have to start over from scratch and figure everything out all over again? The piping really adds a lot and I think makes it adaptable to use by many other industries. A very nice piece.
