Hi Forumites.....Did Walthers ever offer flangeless (blind) wheel sets for their 3 axle passenger trucks? If so.....can you tell me where to find 'em? I think my passenger fleet would track better if the middle set of wheels were blind. thank you!

I don't think they did. I have 3 old catalogues and they are not mentioned.
There are 2 options/alternatives. First you could take out the wheel set and chuck it in a drill press (or lathe if you have one) and file off the flange making your own blind set.
Or if the trucks are black painted anyway, just take that set out and leave an empty space. It may not be noticable depending on layout height and what not since it is up underneath some. guys do this a lot in HO.
If they are not tracking well, it could be that they are worn out. The metal was very soft. If a Pullman truck cannot make it around a curve with all flanges, then neither can an 0-6-0.
Bob2,
I think you are correct. If these trucks are Walthers they need to be modified to roll smoothly. In their final years of O scale production, Walthers supplied their truck kits with steel wheels installed on pointed axles. These wheels wobbled in the soft metal holes in the truck sideframes. Many years ago I had accumulated several pair of Walthers six wheel trucks and reworked the truck sideframes by drilling and inserting brass bushings (5/32" OD x 1/8 ID) in them to support blunt end axles. I made the axles from 1/8" drill rod or piano wire. The trucks rolled smoothly and I have never had any problems with them tracking.
Keil Line sold the old Walthers trucks with brass bushings already installed.

The All Nation truck is harder zamac, probably more accurate, slightly larger, and is actually better looking than a lot of the brass sprung trucks. Fisher used them on his famous cars.
I use mostly Lobaugh - you never wear out a bronze side frame.
Bob2,
I also prefer the diecast Zamac All Nation Pullman trucks originally produced by Varney
They hold up well and track well and incorporate blunt axles However, the AN truck has an offset truck bolster unlike the Walthers truck that mounts in the center of the truck. Replacing the Walthers with an All Nation may require relocating the body mounted truck pads.

Thank you all for your thoughts. Bob2......I believe you nailed it........these trucks are worn out....they wobble.
Joe....your solution looks great, but....is beyond my modeling skill set. I'd love to be able to find a simple way to insert bushings, but I have not yet figured it out....
Now reworking some of my kit built REA cars with All Nation trucks.
Will ponder these 6 wheel trucks more! thanks again, guys!
