This question/discussion has come up several times with several of us, and today again it was asked if anyone has come up with an answer.

The TV series "The Virginian" with James Drury. The locomotive, passenger cars, and freight cars, were they narrow gauge, or were they studio built for the show? Everything didn't look right, to some the trains and consist reminded them of a train built on a truck chassis, and when seen from the end, the passenger cars looked so narrow, never holding seats that would hold a couple passengers each across the aisles. Any thoughts, or anyone remember this engine and consist? Thanks

Just a guess, but since many TV shows were filmed on the Sierra Railroad, I would suspect that the Virginian was done there also.

Television production used anything from the Sierra Railroad, V&T #22 & assorted cars (a studio-owned train by this time,) D&RGW narrow gauge to studio-built train props (RGS #20) used in various movies like "Ticket to Tomahawk" and TV shows like "Casey Jones" (which also used the Sierra) and as an occasional stand on "Petticoat Junction."

There was also a studio prop of Sierra #3 built for Petticoat Junction, it also appeared in "Iron Horse"  and from time to time on the "Wild, Wild West."

Who knows what else lurked in studio the back lots...
