Got up this morning to some nice light on the layout....particularly nice and reflective on the canal and harbor scenes.  I took some of these pictures from angles not seen before...and some that may be familiar.  Right clicking on a picture and then clicking on "Open link in new window" will give you a full page detailed view.  And if you click on the full page view, the picture zooms in even more.  I hope you enjoy!!

Alan, Very nicely done.  Beautiful work.

I do have a question.  Are some of these locations static displays?  For example, I notice the automobile bridges butt into dead ends.  I understand that.  How about the railroad tracks.  Where you have the intermodal cranes, is that a continuous link to track through which you could load and unload other cars and/or equipment?

It is a wonderful model which surely gives you great satisfaction in continuing its growth....

Charlie...wow!, thanks so much for the very generous comments!  Glad the water front pictures brought back pleasant memories...

Frank...good to hear from you my friend.  Hey..when are you Memphis guys going to pay me a visit.  Its your turn!!!

Thank you "coloradohighrailer"..

Ken..thanks and you are certainly welcome..

John...thank you and thanks for being part of our MA3R group.  I sent the logo to you so I am looking forward to seeing it in your posts...

Thank you Wood...have enjoyed exchanging emails!

"tr18" John...thanks so much!

"Laidoff....." Had not thought about the title doing that...LOL!!  Thanks for the comment and I have been enjoying the progress on your layout.

Alan, no, but that is a great idea. I will have to contact the manufacturer to see if they had a model done for their Offices. I put a good deal of research into this market before I bought it, and it turned out to be one of my best purchases.

This also might be a good modeling project as I certainly can always use more boats on the layout.

leavingtracks (leaving wakes?):  I don't know what your water surface is, but I could

think what could have been done, but now hard with all the structures and scenery

around it, would have been to cut a hole in the water surface, in the exact shape

of that boat's hull, at the water line, so the boat could be set down in that hole just

that far... though that would, of course, defeat the possibility of moving it around, unless those panels are removeable and an uncut one could be substituted...speaking of wakes, I was looking for wakes and trying to think how they could be modeled, and I saw another small boat that needs "waterlined" or embedded, trivial and lost in the grand scheme of the first glance.

I have a question and an idea:

Question:  is the water surface a custom cut section of glass?  If so, what kind of glass? great example of thinking outside the box.

Idea for your cruise ship:  i understand your reluctance to cut the model ship.  One thought would be to build a wood piling wall that rests on the surface of the water and  that travel down the side of the ship.  wouldn't have to be too high just enough to conceal the bottom hull.

i have been struggling with a river scene on my layout and your pictures have inspired me.  Thanks for sharing.

Carl...thanks so much and you already know that you are welcome anytime.  As a matter of fact how about thinking about the whole crew that was together at the Lionel open house coming together!!  I bet we can find room!!

OGD...great idea.  Perhaps something like a dry dock so it looks like the ship is being painted....??

Thanks,

Alan

Thanks SR....

Wow Bob....that was very nice.  Thanks so much.  The pictures that have the passenger liner is also a drop down....  I don't have it completed yet but it is mounted on hinges on one side and on the other is a nylon rope which is going to be attached to a hitch crank.  When I want to take pictures and not using the isle, then the canal/harbor is up.  When there are guest and we are running trains and using the isle, it is cranked down and out of the way.  Of course the boats that are on it are taken off and stored on the side opposite from the hinged side.

Alan

Joe....space has been prepared in the train room.  Head on over as you can now be in charge of finishing the details, dusting, cleaning track, weathering, getting the rest of the ballast down ( only about a 1000 more feet ), building a few more structures, ....oh, while you are at it, cutting the grass ( about a half acre here in town ), cars need waxing, landscaping needs trimming, exterior needs painting....  See how fast a guest will probably leave!! LOL!!

Thanks Joe...you are welcome anytime!

Alan
