Lost in space on the topic of weathering . . . . . once again.

Every once in a while I want to learn how to weather like an expert. I say once in a while because it seems so difficult to find expert weathering advice on the Internet. Lots of examples of expert weathering but the techniques that get you there for all the different parts of a boxcar for example, not so much.

The problem is that there is a huge amount of weathering "advice" on the Internet and most of it is mediocre. Websites often have lots of text but few photos of techniques illustrating different types of media and the different parts of rolling stock. Boxcars, for example, are a favorite of mine. I know there are experts on the Forum but I don't want to ask them to give away their weathering secrets because they earn a living doing that. So . . . . . .

Does anyone know of a website/book where there is a step by step, illustrated, method(s)/tutorial on weathering boxcars/rolling stock?

So many thanks,

Scrapiron

Good morning Eliot, it's been awhile.  Kalmbach has a good paper back that does some pretty good detail on weathering.  Unfortunately I'm away, Boston again, there are three Grandkids here now, so I don't have access to my books.

Air brush over spray, Grimmy black maybe a good thing. Kalmbach also has a book on the air brush.
