Weathering...yay
I am planning on making a modern day layout in the future, so I will weather everything to make it realistic.

Some excellent weathering. Not to heavy, but showing road crime and areas I have seen on tank cars. If I may? Being a manager at a Terminal and also inspecting tank cars before they were picked up for shipping, always noticed that the top near hatch on dome would be shiny from drippings from filling station. Of course this was wiped clean, but there always remained a shine near the center of dome by hatch. (not hatch). This top area never showed rust mainly because of wiping clean. I see your expertise in not showing rust there. Excellent
NAY!!!!! I like my models to look like they came off the show room floor. Well, at least, just out of the factory door. Nice and shiny and clean. I worked for NS as a conductor and after working with the real thing (filthy dirty, rusty, some falling apart) I want mine nice.

Nay for my layout, I like the nice new stuff. But I have seen a lot of impressive weathered trains and layouts and I do like those. I won't say I will never change to a Yay, but it's still off in the future somewhere if it ever does change.
Some folks really do a nice job with the weathering, as some of the pictures here show!
Exact same thing RTR12 just said.

Not everything on the prototype is filthy:
I found out later that the 3751 had only been out of the paint shop for less than a week. It was
in Pelzer, SC when I took the picture; I was taking a shot of this old station building:
( gone now) andthe friend with me asked if I was going to take a photo of the train behind me!
Nice shots Dave.

A BIG FAT NO. I like the different colors of the various road logos. If you weather it, you will not be selling it to me. Sludge and crud are not on my list of favorites.

Nay!!!!!
If you buy old or 2nd (3rd 4th?) hand stuff, sometimes it doesn't need it!
Nay for my equipment. IF you're going to do it, I think you need to be all-in. I'm not prepared to do that with all of my locomotives and rolling stock.
That said, I do appreciate the artistry of the guys like SIRT who do this.
I’m all for weathering, but not for everything. I have some scale passenger sets that I will always keep prestine. Here’s a couple video links of my work.

SIRT Steve does an incredible job and his work is a big inspiration for me and I’m sure many other modelers
