Where is the battery located in the Weaver Cincinnatian? Tried the tender which is where I expected to find it, but didn't see anything that looked like a battery. Haven't tried taking the shell off of the loco yet. The instruction booklet doesn't yield any location information and I've hesitated in blindly removing screws.

It's been packed away for 8 years and won't respond properly to DCS so I suspect the battery is dead. Tried looking for a charging port and didn't find one on the tender or loco.

Thanks,

Scott

It came with TMCC and I have the jumper from TIU to the TMCC base. It successfully ran this way at our last home and now wants to start in motion as soon as power is applied to the track instead of waiting for the start up command. I was assuming a battery related problem since it was packed away so long. Perhaps I should just delete it and attempt to reload.

The taking off with track power implies that the R2LC isn't seeing the TMCC track signal.  I believe in that locomotive, you'll find it in the tender.  One issue is Weaver floats the tender shell to serve as the TMCC antenna.  This is done with an insulated gasket and plastic inserts around the screws.  If one of those plastic inserts is missing, the tender shell may be shorted to the frame, that will kill the TMCC signal.  Check to see if the tender shell is insulated from the wheels.  If not, that's your problem.

John,

You were spot on. Checked the continuity between the tender shell and wheelsets and dead short. Opened it up and found a small worn spot in the insulator gasket. Patched it with some electrical tape, reassembled and tested. Everything operates properly. Thanks a ton for pointing me in the right direction,

Scott
