It's barely Friday morning (12:02 AM) and since I am still awake I will go ahead and start WEEKEND PHOTO FUN.

I have started putting back the Frozen Layout at the VMT.

Hopefully I can get this finished this week.

I really like the First Responders engine and cars that MTH has out thus far. I look forward to collecting the entire set.

Hello chessie1971.

I like that dark blue 50 foot double door boxcar !!!!!  Love that dark blue color. Is that a MTH premier by chance ?

The modular group is supported by our yearly raffle which we hold from August to December (our regular train exhibition season). In the Spring, we buy a LionChief set. Build a 64x44" board and mount the track. We give the board and mounted track as winnings.

To enhance the value of the set ( and the raffle), we add some Plasticville buildings. I look for inexpensive, derelict buildings at shows and rehab them. I'm starting with a Plasticville Church that I bought for $2 at October York.

I like to work outside, and since it hit the upper 50s, I did.

My paint and drying booth:

I choose a light grey to cover imperfections.

imageimage

After drying, I needed to replace the stained glass windows. Any brightly colored, busy wrapping paper should do. I chose some birthday paper.

imageimageimageimage

I took off the old door and photocopied it. I used red and black markers to fixed the imperfections in the copy.

My last job this session was to "repair the drywall".

The "repaired" wall:

Next will be assembly and "touch up".

P51,

Do you have any info on this thing??? There's got to be a good story behind it.

Looks like a cross between a heavy weight passenger car, a space shuttle and a 1930 something Ford! LOL

Maybe a home made UP M-1000???

UPM1

It use to be a restaurant (Diner) don't know much else.

This was on the grounds of the Orange Empire Railroad museum at Perris, CA.

I couldn't find anyone there who could tell me the story behind it. That end is clearly inspired by the UP M1000 streamliner...

former O'Neill's Streamline Diner
Perris, CA

O'Neill's Streamline Diner was originally located north of Perris. The main section of the restaurant was built from a 1906 Santa Fe passenger car. The nose was added to make it look like a 1930s Union Pacific passenger train. It closed in 1943 and was moved further south. In 1948, it reopened as the Liberty Bell Cafe. That restaurant closed in 1982. In 1987, the building was moved to the Orange Empire Railway Museum where it is located today. [map]

Very cool!

Our church Train Tour continued last week with a stop at John’s house. His primary layout is conventionally powered 1950s/60s era Lionel. He can run 2 trains at once and a bump-n-go trolley. He will add modern electronics as needed, but says away from command control systems. He has done very well, considering this layout is only 2 years old.

Here is another item i just bought from the OGR Forum. K-line Clinchfield Die-cast 2 Bay Hopper.K-line Clinchfield 2 Bay Die-cast Hopper With Coal #44318

These are very nice cars. I picked up a PARR Coal Goes To War hopper that I plan to use for a diroama I am planning for the Huber Breaker Preservation Society. I hope to acquire one of each from the five class one roads that served Ashley PA. I just finished making some coal loads for this and an MTH war emergency hopper.
